Dave Weckl's new cd due out July 12th

it's not just math though. Drummers like Tain, Vinnie, Ari, Hass, Humphrey and others use it as a color. It sounds uneven it's great way to set up certain things in a song. For example this is one thing Tain and Hass do a lot in their jazz playing.
If you're thinking in a "2's and 3's" breakdown of rhythm, they'll take a two and play a 5 or 7 over it. I've seen Hass play 9 over 7 by placing a five over the first to half notes(1,2,3,4)(5:2) and then a four over the last 3 quarters(4:3), creating a 9. Weckl never uses that kind of coloration. I love guys Dan Wiess, Joel Taylor,Hass, Tain and prolly some in here, that use rhythms like that to make music breathe differently.
Weckl, is undisputedly once of the greatest drummers in the history of drumming. I'm not comparing him to anyone as he's in his own league. I just mentioned these other guys as people who do use polyrhythms in a way where it doesn't interfere. And of course. VINCE..

Well... a little off topic but.......

Just got off the phone with Steve Weingart and he says he's leaving in literally 3 hours to play with Steve Lukather and Joey Heredia somewhere in Europe for the next few weeks. I didn't catch the bass players name. So for any of you Euro Heredia fans, he's on his way to somewhere.

If you haven't seen this red blooded south american, he's a must see.

Yeah, man, Joey kicked total arse on that Tribal Tech '91 disc with tunes Signal Path, Got Tuh Be, Wasteland, Fight the Giant, Formula One, Necessary Blonde, Elvis at the Hop...a great disc...i like the distinct Weather Report influence in TT's music [while still retaining their own individual indentity]...

I saw Joey in the early 90's at the Spud and he was Mr Paradiddle and very busy.

I then saw him last year and he was a totally different drummer...he was a musician playing drums. His feel was light and touch graceful. He let space dictate and played for each song individually w/o inserting his stamp/signature as a drummer. Very mature stuff happenin' that night.

Luke rules. I saw him w/TOTO last year and his performance couldn't have been more passionate. He was playing before a home crowd at the Agoura Theatre off the 101 freeway.
